So over the past few weeks I’ve received email about the Amazon Kindle Storyteller contest (entered Jumping Into Love, or at least I will have once they get back to me about the paperback version) and also a Reader’s Favorite contest. Now, Amazon require that your book is available ONLY through them for 90 days but that’s the only “condition”. The other? Yeah I looked at the “how to enter” page. MINIMUM entry fee of $89 (if you entered really early). So it’s basically paid advertising. Yeah so you get a ‘printable’ award certificate. Yippy skippy. I just find it incredibly disheartening that the whole industry is so slanted against newcomers. I previously got an invitation to do a radio interview…… which would “only” cost a couple of bucks PER WEEK for them to have it streaming available for a year. I think the only no-strings help I’ve had was the interview requested by Fiona Mcvie (thanks again Fiona 🙂 ). And of course one friend who did edits on one book and a beta read of another FOC.
Okay whine over. I need to get back to work.

  1. (hugs) I’m a big fan of posting in Facebook groups, which is still free to do, and has the awesome immediate payback of being able to talk to a variety of readers. That is my number one promo vehicle.
