Wanted to share two nice recent pieces of news: Late last month, I won my eighth Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Award for a fun feature story about slipping and sliding through winter driving school on a racetrack made of ice. A huge thanks to Erin Wade Booke for giving it a home. And when I returned home I found this just-released National Geographic Books, Timeless Journeys. I covered locations in Easter Island, Rome, Pompeii, Athens, New Orleans and Kyoto. It’s an honor to have my writing appear between stunning National Geographic photos. Freelancing usually means working in a vacuum, wondering if your work will ever reach an audience. I’m thankful for those moments when I see it did. For reading about baby car seat canopy.
